Does it actually work?
That depends a great deal on what you are expecting. Dermatologists who study
this are fairly consistent that LED light produces gradual, cumulative change in
the appearance of skin texture and fine lines rather than dramatic
transformation, and our own testing matched that.
In a 28-day study of 31 participants using this device, instrument measurements
showed group average improvements of roughly 33% in skin glossiness readings and
roughly 16% in firmness readings, with no adverse reactions recorded. Those are
averages across a group, not a prediction about any one person. If you want
something that behaves like an in-clinic procedure, this is not it. If you want
something modest that compounds over months, it is.
How long before I notice a difference?
Longer than you would like. Light therapy is cumulative, which means change comes
from the total dose built up across weeks rather than from any single session.
General guidance in this category points to somewhere between eight and twelve
weeks of consistent use before differences in appearance become noticeable to

How is this different from masks costing twice as much?
The specification that determines whether a session delivers a meaningful dose is
irradiance, meaning how much light per square centimetre actually reaches your
skin. Ours is 45 mW/cm², which across a ten-minute session comes to 27 J/cm².
A good number of masks in this category, including several priced well above
ours, do not publish that figure at all, which makes an honest comparison
impossible. We would rather hand you the number. The other difference worth
understanding is form: a flexible mask resting against your face delivers light

Using it
How often should I use it?
Three to five times a week, ten minutes each session. More is not better here.
The dose is designed around that frequency, and using it every day will not
speed anything up. Consistency across months matters far more than intensity in
any given week.
Can I keep my eyes open?
Yes, as long as the eye protectors are fitted. The two black protectors sit in
the eye openings and shield your eyes from the LEDs around them, so you are free
to read, watch something or scroll your phone while you wear it. Most people find
ten minutes passes more easily that way.
If the protectors are not fitted, keep your eyes closed. The light is bright at
that distance, and the 850nm near-infrared is invisible, so you would not sense
that exposure the way you would with visible light.
If you have an eye condition, or take medication that increases sensitivity to
light, speak to your doctor before using it.
Bare skin, or over my skincare?
Clean, dry skin with nothing on it. Anything sitting on the surface sits between
the light and your skin. Apply your serums and moisturiser afterwards instead.
Will it fit my face?
The mask is flexible food-contact-certified silicone with three adjustable
straps, two at the sides and one over the crown, so it contours rather than
sitting rigidly against you. Fit is the single most common reason any LED mask
gets returned across this category, which is part of why the sixty days exists.
How do I clean it?
Wipe the inner surface with a soft, slightly damp cloth after each session and
let it dry before folding it into the pouch. Do not submerge it or hold it under
a tap. It is an electrical device.
Safety and suitability
I have sensitive or rosacea-prone skin.
A lot of people with reactive skin do use LED, because there is nothing abrasive
involved and no active ingredient — it is light rather than chemistry. What we
cannot tell you is how your particular skin will respond. If you are under the
care of a dermatologist, we would genuinely rather you asked them first. If you
go ahead, start with shorter and less frequent sessions than the guidance above.
I have melasma or hyperpigmentation.
This one is worth raising with a dermatologist before you buy rather than after.
Melasma can be sensitive to both light and heat, and responses vary considerably
between individuals. We would rather say that plainly and lose the sale than sell
you something that may not suit you.
Are there medications I should know about?
Some medications increase sensitivity to light, including certain acne
treatments, some antibiotics and some herbal supplements. If you take anything
regularly, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Can I use it while pregnant or breastfeeding?
We are not in a position to advise on this and would not want to guess. Please
ask your doctor or midwife.

What do the four wavelengths do?
630nm red and 850nm near-infrared are the two most studied in relation to the
appearance of fine lines and firmness. 590nm yellow is associated with the
appearance of redness and evenness of tone. 460nm blue is the wavelength used
for blemish-prone skin. All four run through the same 288 LEDs across three
selectable modes.
Is it FDA cleared, and what does that mean?
The mask is an FDA-cleared Class II device. Cleared is not the same as approved,
and any brand telling you otherwise is being loose with the language. Clearance
means the device has been shown to be substantially equivalent to devices already
legally marketed for the same intended use, and it is the correct pathway for
this category.
You can search LORYN in the FDA's public device databases and read the record
yourself. Worth knowing: some brands describe themselves as "FDA registered,"
which is a considerably lower bar and only means a facility appears on a list.
Is it corded or cordless?
Corded, running from a wired controller. A cord is a mild inconvenience for ten
minutes, and we understand why some people prefer a battery. The trade-off is
that light output stays constant through the whole session rather than tapering
as a battery drains, and consistent output is the entire basis of a dose you can
actually measure.
